Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) was found in 1910, and operated the first railway in Hong Kong. KCRC mainly operated railway line in New Territories, such as East Rail Line (1910), West Rail Line (2003), Ma On Shan Line(2004), and Light Rail (1988).
Meanwhile, the railways in urban area Kowloon Peninsular and Hong Kong Island were operated by Mass Transit Railway Corporation since 1979.
Almost a century after KCRC was established, in 2007, KCRC was merged into and become part of Mass Transit Railway Corporation Limited (MTRCL), and MTRCL runs all the railways in Hong Kong since then.
MTR is the rapid transit railway system in Hong Kong. The system now includes 218.2 km of rail with 157 stations, including 89 railway stations and 68 light rail stops. In addition, 3 more lines are under construction, and 30+ more stations are coming soon.
